Liam Herne is an artist who works predominately in video, performance and photography. His work is inspired by the world around him and things that happen in his everyday life which he then skews and twists to create an uninformed, but in his opinion, honest commentary. His recent work has seen him explore identity or the loss of it due to the dominance of social networking sites in everyday culture. He plays with narrative and perspective in order to try and imitate the vast amount of information we receive in our everyday lives.
His performance’s take many different directions. Sometimes they are drawn from autobiographical events which he then twists and reintegrates back into normal everyday scenarios.
Herne also embarks on experiments that are destined to fail but tries to sell the audience his idiotic and naïve concepts. He aims to make audiences suspend their beliefs and interact and join in with him.
Other performances see him putting himself into vulnerable positions which he then invites audiences to interact with him and take part in what is usually an act of public humiliation. By doing this he tries to empower the audience but also wants to test and make them question their own morale judgement.
